College GameDay announces location for Week 1, Lee Corso’s final appearance
College GameDay has announced its location for Week 1 of the 2025 college football season.
ESPN’s flagship pregame show will be on hand in Columbus, Ohio, as the defending national champion Ohio State Buckeyes host Texas to kick off the first full Saturday of the year. It was previously announced that Week 1 will be the final show for legendary GameDay ist Lee Corso.
That means Corso will finish off his legendary broadcasting career in Columbus. It’s a full-circle moment for Corso and the show, as his first-ever headgear took place in Columbus way back on Oct. 5, 1996.
Here’s the official announcement from College GameDay:
Although Ohio State vs. Texas is a high-profile matchup, this is a bit of a surprise. Some had speculated GameDay would go to Tallahassee for Florida State vs. Alabama in Week 1. Corso is a Florida State alum, having played there from 1953-57.
Instead, GameDay will be on hand for a potential top-5 matchup between Ohio State and Texas.
Corso previously announced plans to step away from the show following one final episode to start the 2025 season. Tributes from all over the college football world flowed in after Corso made his decision public.
It remains to be seen who Corso will pick in his final show, but it’s worth noting Corso does have a long history of picking Ohio State. Per ESPN, Corso has picked the Buckeyes 45 times throughout his tenure on College GameDay — the most of any single program.
